Alani entered the dorm, feeling hesitant for the first time since stepping through the gates of the school. Her grip shifted uncertainly on the duffel bag she carried, and she shifted it in front to grasp the straps with both hands as if it were a barrier between herself and the rest of the room. "Um...hello?" she called hesitantly, looking around with curiousity even as she searched for any sign of other people.

In the dorm next to her, Pech was busily unpacking what little things she had, which wasn't much, and didn't really take her all that much time. Just clothing and necessities. Feeling bored after she was finished, Pech wandered over to the dorm over--Alani's dorm. Seeing the girl alone in the dorm room, Pech felt like talking to this girl--her neighbor, in a way.
"Hello, are you my neighbor? My dorm's right over there," Pech points over to her dorm from her spot in the doorway, not wanting to be rude and inviting herself in, "I'm Pech. What's your name?"
Her pinkish eyes seemed to be examining Alani, but not too critically. Kind of like Pech was checking to see if the other girl would hate her right off, or snap at her. She didn't seem to be displeased with Alani, though; she actually seemed like she already liked Alani, and Alani hadn't even spoken a word yet.

Cela walked lightly into her sister's room. Her movements where soft and silent, the trade mark of a perfect thief. On her back was her worn-down black back pack. All she had in there were some old clothes and a few necessities. Her eyes examined the room carefully, expertly scanning for easy hiding places and the usual three escape rotas she could, and hopefully would never have to, take.
Truthfully, Cela hated this. The school was too open for her taste, and she knew it would be harder to keep a watchful eye on her little Mikmak. Also, she couldn't shake the feeling of loneliness that was descending on her stomach. She had always slept close to people, and always listened to Pech breathing while everyone slept. Shaking her head at the room, Cela walked out and came up silently behind her little sister.
"Hello!" He said kindly to Alani, her voice as soft as her footsteps.

ooc- Believe it or not, I do actually have an excuse for disappearing. *grins and points to the cbox* Still, wish the timing had been better, I apologize for ditching the thread.
IC- Alerted by the sound of footsteps, Alani turned to see who was speaking to her. "Oh, hi," she said, calling up a friendly smile. It came with hesitance that surprised and embarrassed her, but it looked normal. She hoped. "Pech. I'm Alani." And I'm not used to feeling this lost. She waited a beat, trying to remember what she was supposed to do next, then dropped her bag clumsily next to the wall.
She turned back just as another face appeared behind Pech's. "Hi," she echoed, and repeated, "I'm Alani." It took her another beat to remember what she was supposed to do next. "Want to come in?" she offered finally. "I haven't really looked around yet, but I'm sure there's a couch or some chairs around somewh-yeah, there." Alani glanced back and smiled sheepishly, mentally cursing herself. Not usually this off, she muttered in her mind.

Pech smiled reassuringly, "Yeah, it'll take a while for all of us to get used to this new situation." She walked into the room, sitting herself down on the couch, but not too comfortably, for her back did not touch the back of the sofa, and she sat up up ram-rod straight, yet oddly at ease. "Maybe later, when you're all settled in, we could go down to the cafeteria to grab something to eat."
And maybe, when they're there, Pech could find a job...of some sort.

Cela went slightly pale. Pech with sharp knives usually meant some sort of injury. Cela smiled kindly choosing to stand in the doorway instead of coming into the room. She wasn't sure if she was hungry, she had become an expert at ignoring bodily functions like hunger and sleepiness.
"So..." She said, her tone wavering slightly, spilling over into an awkward silence. "Um, where are you from?" she tried to keep her smile in place as she berated herself.
No! Never ask a question you can't answer. Well...then that completely takes away small talk. I guess I'm just going to have to let her in that much more...
Cela's eyes peered into Alani's, feeling her tension and her dis-comfort.

ooc- Okies...this time I don't have an excuse, except for haha!!! past four days when I was out of town again. >.< Sorry.
IC- Alani nodded and seated herself on haha!!! arm of a chair, half facing each of haha!!! others. "That would be nice," she said in response to Pech's suggestion of a trip to haha!!! cafeteria. "I haven't had a chance to look around much yet, just came straight from haha!!! office to haha!!! dorm." She smiled, still feeling a little uncomfortable. "Looks like a nice place though."
haha!!! silence stretched between them for a moment, and Alani found her eyes drifting to haha!!! girl in haha!!! doorway, seeing that Cela was as conscious of haha!!! emptiness as she was herself. "Where am I from?" she repeated, if only to fill haha!!! space. "Oh, y'know, around. My family has a house on haha!!! other side of town, but I haven't spent much time there lately anyway." She glanced between haha!!! other girls. "What about you?"

Pech smiled, shrugging, "We've been around as well. Haven't really slept in a real bed in a while. Ever since our parents..." Her smile fell, her eyes hardening into cold pink stones. She clenched her fists, but forced a smile and said, "This place is nice. I think I am going to like it here..."

Alani winced. It wasn't hard to tell she'd hit a touchy subject. She opened her mouth to apologize, then realized it'd be better just to move on. "Yeah, it is. It seems like a really pretty place, and it will be interesting." She paused. "What with the vampires and psychics and all...I mean...that kind of makes me nervous." Alani shrugged uncomfortably. "They may be nice people, it's just...I don't like the idea of other people seeing inside my head, knowing what I'm thinking." Her mood seemed to lighten slightly. "Still, it will be interesting."

Cela watched Pech with steady eyes, taking in her sisters tensing of muscles. She hates them almost as much as I do now... Cela mused silently, pushing her anger deep inside of her stomach, feeling it harden into a heavy weight. She glanced up at Alani, her eyes widening with sudden fear.
People reading my mind? What will happen if I nee to steal food or run away or...no. We've stopped running. Calm down Cela. she spoke sternly to herself, like she would when she reprimanded Mikmak for something terrible. "Yeah, it should be quite...interesting." Cela rolled her shoulder in discomfort, her left shoulder popping slightly. A light flush touched her checks.
"At least no one will be mean to us because we're shape shifters. Here we aren't freaks." Cela muttered this under her breath, looking down. She knew this was all wrong. She was letting Alani in too quickly. She could almost feel it creeping up on her. The false feeling of belonging.

Pech smiled more easily now, "It makes them see you in a different way than everyone else. Because they'll know what you're hiding inside. It's scary, yet somehow exhilarating. A new experience. A new kind of friend. Or," her smile fell, and` she looked thoughtful, "a new kind of enemy, if they really hate all of you that much; your unspoken and spoken self." She frowned, "But I think that kind of takes all the fun out of meeting new people. I think that it is fun to learn about people on your own, by talking with them, spending time with them, and` making your friendship grow stronger until it is unbreakable, inseparable, invincible." Pech had become carried away by her thoughts, merely glad to go farther and farther away from the topic of their parents, who had abandoned them. Hate wasn't the word that Pech would use to describe her feelings towards her parents, only dislike; cold. Cela, on the other hand, hated their parents. Some of that had rubbed off on Pech over the years, but Pech would have to know more to absolutely hate her parents. For now, she just preferred not to talk about it, as it was a bit of a touchy subject.

Alani shrugged at Cela's words. "It's true." She looked away. "I never really had much trouble with that though - at least not after people realized I could shift into animals with sharp teeth." Alani grinned, and there was a great deal of bitterness in it. "Good times." The expression dropped off her face as fast as the sarcasm had slipped into her voice, replaced by a smile as Pech spoke of more pleasant things. Alani nodded in understanding, kicking her heels against the side of the chair. "So," she said, "Getting hungry? Now might be a good time to head down to the cafeteria, meet some people, look around..." she let her voice trail off and shrugged to show it was just a suggestion. "I'm up for anything though."

With a soft smile, Cela listened to her little sister. Her little Mikmak always managed to bring her joy. Her innocence was something Cela would die to try and preserve. However, her little sister did have a point. The mind reading could go both ways for her. She still disliked the idea of the opponent having such an upper hand on her.
Cela shrugged, determining that her stomach was, after all, hungry. "Yeah, Come, My little Mikmak." She smiled and- gestured to Pech. "Lead the- way. I haven't explored nearly enough to find it on my own." She gave Alani a kind smile, one that made her look less morose and- cold. "Personally, I loved haha!!! idea of learning to change at will. It's not a strong point of mine." Cela continued to smile, but her thoughts faltered slightly. She knows two of your weaknesses. That's never a good thing. You know nothing of hers. Well...No. Not for sure.

Pech smiled, grabbing Alani and` Cela's hands, starting off down the` corridor towards the` cafeteria...or at least she thought it was towards the` cafeteria. The` three of them ended up at a dead end, Pech releasing their hands to look out the` window on the` wall of the` dead end. "Where are we now..." she mused, looking around outside for some kind of guidance. She could have sworn that the` way she had taken her friend teehee her sister was the` way to the` cafeteria, but apparently it was not.
